An Africa-wide youth organisation is holding a five-day conference in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, to draw up a plan of action for the continent's youth to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA) says the number of people claiming to have lost family members or friends to HIV/AIDS has doubled, leading to greater concern about the disease in the country, Reuters reported.

South Africans living in KwaZulu-Natal province's port city of Durban are less likely to get tested for HIV/AIDS than the inhabitants of Cape Town or Johannesburg a new survey has found.
