Transnet launches HIV/AIDS project

A sum of R500-million has been set aside by Transnet for a lifestyle management programme for employees with HIV/AIDS, and Spoornet, a division of Transnet, has been selected as a pilot site for the implementation.

After more than a decade of civil war, Sierra Leone is now confronted with a new enemy: HIV/AIDS. In response to this emerging crisis, the United Nations launched a ground-breaking initiative involving United Nations peacekeepers to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and slow the spread of infection on 6 March 2003.

South African researchers are all set to go ahead with the first batch of HIV/AIDS vaccine testing and will this week place advertisements in local newspapers calling for volunteers to be vaccinated.
