In their ongoing effort to support and strengthen community initiatives to combat the HIV/AIDS crisis in KwaZulu-Natal, the Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) and the KwaZulu-Natal Church AIDS Network (KZNCAN), have collaborated to produce the 2005 edition of the HIVAN/KZNCAN Directory. The Directory provides a comprehensive reference resource for HIV/AIDS-related research, intervention and service organisations working in the province.

A government task team on anti-retroviral drugs to treat HIV/AIDS was working "day and night" to complete its task so that a report on the roll-out of anti-retrovirals could be presented to the cabinet, government spokesman Joel Netshitenzhe said yesterday.

Home-based care is likely to become the dominant form of AIDS treatment in South Africa. The overwhelming majority of people dealing with HIV/AIDS are doing so with extremely limited resources. It has become clear that an effective care strategy has to include instruction on dealing with the day-to-day requirements of patients without access to the latest medical supplies.

Dr Zola Skweyiya has urged the public servants across the country to mark Public Service Week and Imbizo Focus Week, especially those working in the rural areas, by intensifying the campaign to register all eligible children under nine years for the Child Support Grant (CSG) and birth certificates as well as register all people who qualify for identity documents.

There was much joy and pride at the African Art Centre and the Durban Institute of Technology recently, when it was announced that Lobolile Bhekiswephi Ximba was the winner of the craft section in the Brett Kebble Art Awards. She was presented with a R30 000 prize for her beaded crucifix.
