The impact of HIV/AIDS on food security in Southern Africa is now well recognised. The critical question is what can be done to halt the slide into poverty by affected households, a report released on Wednesday by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) said.

MTV will produce a new 60-minute special celebrating the life of humanitarian and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela to premiere globally to a potential audience of one billion people in July 2003. The special will mark the 2003 debut of the groundbreaking Staying Alive HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, as well as Mr. Mandela€™s 85th birthday.

In most South African companies it is cheaper to treat than to ignore HIV/AIDS in the workforce. Analysis of 70 South African companies by FutureForesight, the firm of HIV workplace economics specialists, has shown the viability of completely funding HIV treatment in most cases.
