Senzekuhle Project is one of a number administrated by the NSA Training Arts Programme (TAP). This particular initiative commenced in 1999 and received funding from the SEM Charitable Trust. The project aimed at providing a number of unemployed women with skills that would enable them to produce articles that they could sell in order generate a basic source of income. In the process, it was intended that Senzekuhle women would also derive a sense of confidence, self-respect and pride by becoming economically independent.

Southern Africa will have lost 16-million agricultural workers to HIV/AIDS by 2020, according to the United Nations. This frightening mortality rate is set to significantly impact on the region's capacity to sustain agricultural production, increasing poverty and resulting in severe food shortages.
