Title of Event: HIVAN/MRC HPRU KZN AIDS Forum
Date and Venue: 28 August, 2007. The Board Room, Curries Fountain Sports Development Centre, Durban University of Technology, 24 Winterton Walk, Durban. Details: Bronwyn Bouwer - Paediatric Programme Co-ordinator (Sinikithemba Clinic), will be presenting on A Holistic Approach to Paediatric HIV Care and Treatment. Sinikithemba Paeds Department really got started in 2003 with a few children doing a memory box project with Roni Wilson a VSO volunteer. Some months later it was decided to start a playgroup as the number of children patients was growing very quickly. The psychosocial aspect of the programme has grown enormously since then with the help of various volunteers. The clinic aims to be a child and adolescent friendly clinic with an up to date approach on all aspects of medical and social care and?treatment.?Bronwyn would like to share some of the new developments?they see for the future and outline how the community can be involved both?passively and proactively.? Title of Event: HEARD Monitoring and Evaluation Training Workshop
Date and Venue: 10 to 14 September, 2007. Hotel Apollo, Riverside Hotel, Durban.
Details: Recent years have seen a rapid escalation in national and international resources to confront HIV/AIDS. Increased M&E capacity is vital to ensure that these resources are put to effective use. In response to growing demand for M&E training, the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will offer a course designed to equip HIV/AIDS practitioners with the concepts and concrete skills required to introduce comprehensive M&E systems. By the end of the course, participants will: be able to: Understand and articulate the rationale for effective M&E; Understand and explain the epidemiological and economic foundations of M&E; Understand and explain the elements of a comprehensive M&E system, encompassing bio- and behavioural surveillance, research and program monitoring; Develop an M&E logical framework, with key indicators, targets and data sources; Prepare an M&E operational plan and budget, with milestones and responsibilities; Design a tailored, functional M&E system for their own institution/programme; Utilize M&E data to improve decision making and implementation performance and Identify and disseminate proven, evidence-based HIV/AIDS practices.
