The authorities in South Africa's Mpumalanga province have announced plans to increase the number of free anti-AIDS treatment sites from eight to 12.
According to the MEC for provincial health and social services, Pogisho Pasha, the greater availability of treatment for HIV-positive people was in line with the government's 'Comprehensive Plan for the Treatment, Management and Care of HIV and AIDS' in the public health sector.
Pasha told the government news agency, BuaNews, that 345 men, 560 women, and 31 children were currently accessing treatment at the existing health centres.
The four new sites are expected to be established at KwaMhlanga, Tonga, Mmamethlake and Piet Retief hospitals.
