Description: The children?’s HIV/AIDS Network (CHAiN) was initiated in May 2000 as a result of the growing concern amongst service providers of the plights of HIV/AIDS infected and affected children and the need to develop a co-ordinated response. Initially organized by a group of volunteers, CHAiN secured funding in January 2003 and a full time coordinator and part time administrator were recruited. CHAiN now exists as a child focused project within WC-NACOSA, ensuring localized co-ordination of over 400 partners in the HIV/AIDS affected children?’s sector under one umbrella structure. Partners include representatives from NGOs, CBOs, government departments, local communities, home based carers, faith based groups, businesses, unions, political parties, academic institutions and hospitals working with children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS from the Western Cape.
