The Department of Health
The Department of Health has commissioned the Children's Institute at UCT to conduct research and develop guidelines for improving health, social development, and educational services to children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. The guidelines are aimed particularly at services for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS or at risk of becoming orphans.

The government has mounted a campaign to dispel the impression that its appeal against a High Court judgment instructing it to provide Nevirapine to HIV-positive pregnant women indicates a bias against anti-retrovirals.

The Office on the Status of Disabled Persons (CSDP) in the Presidency has launched a campaign around Youth Day 2002 to encourage young people with disabilities to speak out about their lives. The campaign is part of a national awareness plan to support implementation of government's Integrated National Disability Strategy and to meet its objectives in the areas of public education and awareness. It is encouraging disabled youth to share their experiences of disability in the way they feel most comfortable - through words in any language or even through pictures.
