The voice of youth with disabilities

Published in The Mail & Guardian, 14 - 20 June 2002
The Office on the Status of Disabled Persons (CSDP) in the Presidency has launched a campaign around Youth Day 2002 to encourage young people with disabilities to speak out about their lives. The campaign is part of a national awareness plan to support implementation of government's Integrated National Disability Strategy and to meet its objectives in the areas of public education and awareness. It is encouraging disabled youth to share their experiences of disability in the way they feel most comfortable - through words in any language or even through pictures.

The contributions from young disabled people (25 years old and under) may be used by the CSDP in its efforts to build greater public understanding of disability issues. They may also be published in an anthology of disabled people's creativity, in which case contributors would be remunerated for their work.

For further information, contact Shelley Barry, Media Officer in the CSDP, on (012) 300 5480 / 5.
Contributions may be e-mailed to [email protected] or mailed to The Media Officer, Office on the Status of Disabled Persons, The Presidency, Private Bag X1000, Pretoria 0001.
Contributions must be received by 31 July 2002 and should clearly state the name, age, address and contact telephone number of the young person.
All submissions received by the CSDP will be acknowledged.
