Overview

The SAAVI was formed as a key strategic project of the South African Medical Research Council (MRC), the Department of Health (DoH), the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST) and Eskom, and was established to co-ordinate the research, development and testing of HIV/AIDS vaccines in South Africa. SAAVI is working with key national and international partners to produce an affordable, effective and locally relevant preventative HIV/AIDS vaccine in as short a time as possible.
