Coming closer ?
Welcome to SONDELA?s first 2004 edition. This is, once again, a double issue, bringing you news about all kinds of connections, exchanges and contacts in the multi-sectoral movement against the spread of HIV and AIDS, both in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.
We are delighted to hear from readers who find SONDELA useful and interesting: Sister Nelisiwe Mntungwa from Nellies Farm Clinic at Madadeni Hospital in Dannhauser wrote to ask for more information about orphan support and access to social grants.
Our mailing list is expanding by the week, and our team in Bergville reports that the newsletter is very popular with visitors, both young and old, to the local Clinic. Remember that we always welcome not only your requests, but also your contributions, whether these be about people, groups, activities, advice or suggestions for future SONDELA articles.
Special thanks go to the Children in Distress (CINDI) Network, who produced the ?Vegetables for Health? (?Amaveji ayimpilo?) poster for you to pull out and keep. This joint project was sponsored by the Msunduzi Municipality, and developed by the Valley Trust, the Natal Botanical Gardens, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal?s Centre for Adult Education along with Dr Albert Modi of UKZN Department of Crop Sciences - true partnership in action! CINDI?s Nutrition Working Group has also released a new set of posters entitled ?Living and Eating Well?, funded by Family Health International and USAID, which will be made freely available in isiZulu.
For details and more information about urban food gardening projects and growing indigenous crops, contact Yvonne Spain at the CINDI Network by telephone on (033) 345 7994, by fax on (033) 345 7272, or download the posters from the website (www.cindi.org.za).
Another valuable resource has been updated for 2004: the KZNCAN HIVAN KWAZULU-NATAL HIV/AIDS DIRECTORY is obtainable from the HIVAN central offices in McCord Road, Durban ? write to P O Box 37587, Overport, Durban 4067, telephone (031) 268 5809 or e-mail [email protected].
Take heart! Think about how HIV/AIDS is helping to heal divisions in our society by making us work together in the struggle for an AIDS-free future. Think of all the champions who live with and in the depths of the epidemic and who show us all how to value life and love. Believe in yourself and in others ? we all need each other to make our world whole.
