UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY DONATES TO HILLCREST AIDS CENTRE TRUST (HACT)
Since May 2002, Natal University's Campus HIV/AIDS Support Unit has appealed to students and staff for donations of blankets and clothing urgently needed by the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT).
The Hillcrest AIDS Centre, based in KwaZulu-Natal's Valley of a Thousand Hills, was founded over 10 years ago, and distributes these items to needy families affected by HIV/AIDS and other homeless citizens. The response was wonderful, and the first hand-over took place in June 2002.
The appeal for donations is ongoing, and items such as plastic and glass containers as well as crockery are also being collected. The Centre uses these in their home-based care activities, for serving food, storing medication and other purposes. Dudu Zondi, Community Outreach Co-ordinator of the Campus HIV/AIDS Support Unit, conducted a second hand-over in February 2003.
