Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission:
Ekuphileni Clinic (Cato Manor, Durban): This clinic houses a Mother-to-Child-Transmission (MTCT) programme as part of its antenatal service, with pre- and post-HIV test counselling and Nevirapine being provided to HIV-positive mothers. The programme also offers advice and training on infant feeding as well as an HIV counselling training course. An income generation project has also been started. Income Generation / Youth Activities:
uThukela District Child Survival Project's HIV-MED programme: Business ideas and management skills training are offered to women, youth and students from households with family members who are very ill and/or those who have taken in orphans. Follow-up visits are carried out to assist progress and offer ongoing support. Embo Masakhane Community Development Organisation (EMDCO): This organisation runs a Section 21 programme involving youth action for income generation in the Isipingo area. Activities include sewing, gardening, poultry and pig breeding and fruit-juice production. EMCDO focuses especially on the co-ordination and administration of youth activities. Funding:
KZN branch of the AIDS Foundation of South Africa: They offer three-year funding grants to NGOs and CBOs involved in HIV/AIDS projects as well as technical support and capacity-building programmes.
