Cotlands launches "Raising A Nation" campaign

30 June 2006. MediaWeb. Republished courtesy of MediaWeb.
On Friday 16 June 2006 at their 70th Birthday celebrations, Cotlands unveiled their "Raising a Nation" campaign to the public.

The national campaign, which aims to provide care to thousands of South African children affected by HIV/AIDS, is appealing to individual South Africans to commit to a monthly debit order of as little as R8-00. This is what it costs Cotlands to care for one child for one day.

An estimated one million South African children will have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS this year, and at least 800 people are believed to die of HIV/AIDS every day in South Africa. A frightening statistic and one of the reasons Cotlands has launched their biggest campaign to date.

Says Cotlands executive director, Jackie Schoeman; "At Cotlands we have been made increasingly aware of the numbers of children made vulnerable by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in South Africa, and are endlessly faced with the challenge of providing care for more and more children. This is why we are appealing to all South Africans to assist us in raising these children."

For more information on Cotlands, visit: http://www.cotlands.org. With 70 years of service to South African children, Cotlands currently operates in five provinces, providing a range of services to communities in need. From two hospices dedicated to Paediatric HIV/AIDS to Home Based Care initiatives that provide support to nearly two thousand families. "I believe that for seventy years Cotlands has remained relevant to the changing needs of South African society, attaining countless milestones that any organisation can be extremely proud of. However there is simply no time to spend gazing into the rear view mirror! Now, more that ever, Cotlands must keep its eye on the road and be prepared to negotiate the challenges that lie ahead" says Schoeman.
