World AIDS Day 2005 Publication-Celebrating HIV Positive Fathers

IPFF Statement on World AIDS Day. 01 December 2005.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPFF) have released a World AIDS Day Publication, entitled, 'Fulfilling Fatherhood. Experiences from HIV Positive Fathers'.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), in collaboration with the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), today launched its World AIDS Day 2005 publication on the sexual lives, and dreams and desires, of thirteen HIV positive fathers around the world.

This publication recognises that HIV Positive fathers are key agents of change in the HIV/AIDS epidemic, playing a pivotal role in shaping the lives of their children and families. This publication also seeks to:

  • Increase awareness about positive prevention issues, and the urgent need to listen to the voices of people living with HIV;
  • Highlight the necessity of responding to the current SRH needs of, and realities facing, positive men and fathers;
  • Raise awareness of the important role of men as partners in SRH issues, preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and empowering their partners and children;
  • Provide honest and candid stories about HIV positive fathers that are open about their status and are speaking out as role models in their community;
  • Recognize the diversity of fatherhood, and the love and concern of fathers to provide for their children's future.

  • A copy of this can publication can ordered from IPPF or downloaded at the following link: http://new.ippf.org/ContentController.aspx?ID=3D12630
