The Agenda Feminist Media Project was recently awarded a Special Mention by the World Summit Awards (WSA) as one of the 25 most outstanding e-Content website in the world.
The World Summit Award is a global contest that selects and endorses the world?s finest e-Contents and applications. Its ultimate goal is the bridging of the Digital Divide and the narrowing of the Content Gap.
The WSA grand jury of experts, which was responsible for the selection process, consisted of representatives from 35 countries. The jury met in Bahrain from 3 to 10 September to evaluate over 750 products, which were nominated from 168 countries. During the evaluation process the grand jury chose the five most outstanding products in each of the eight WSA categories. These 40 winners were named the WSA Best Contents Products. The jury also took a close look at specific geographic regions, and a World Summit Award Special Mention distinguished the most outstanding examples of quality e-Content in each world region.
Christine Davis, Agenda Web Editor, had this to say about the WSA: ?E-inclusion is incredibly important because it?s all about creating a space where people (normally of a disadvantaged background) can gain access to a platform where they can express themselves publicly, sometimes for the first time. Agenda strives to empower women in any way possible and this Special Mention is really an honour.? Agenda Feminist Media Project will be showcased at the WSA exhibition within the framework of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis during November. Furthermore, they will receive mention in the video presentation at the WSA Gala, which is to be held on the 16 November. The WSA look for multimedia projects that successfully and creatively combine quality contents and digitalise educational, scientific and cultural heritage. The evaluation criteria for best practice in e-Contents and applications included, among others: quality and comprehensiveness of content, functionality, navigation and orientation and - of course - strategic importance for the global development of the Information Society.
