Cindi 10th anniversary conference April 2006: Abstract Deadline 15 October 2005

Yvonne Spain, CINDI Network
CINDI Members have been working together for 10 years to address the needs of vulnerable children in the context of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in KwaZulu-Natal. We invite you to our 10 year anniversary conference in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa from the 3 - 7 April 2006. The Conference will provide an opportunity for practitioners, policy makers and other concerned people to gather together and share ten years' experience of good practice and enter into discussions about the needs of children in the coming decade.
The Children in Distress Network (CINDI) would be grateful if you would please publicise the looming deadline of 15 October 2005 for our Abstract Call in respect of our 10th Anniversary Conference which will be held in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa from 4 - 7 April 2006. (See www.cindi.org/za/conference/ ). I have pleasure in supplying the following details:

Halala! CINDI Tenth Anniversary Conference "Looking Back Living Forward" 4 - 7 April 2005, Pietermaritzburg South Africa Call for Abstracts (deadline 15 October 2005)

Individuals or organisations who would like to participate in our conference are warmly invited to submit an Abstract for consideration by our planning committee.

It is our intention to showcase various forms of work with children in distress:

1) Academic papers that add to or build on theoretical understanding or empirical work with children in distress;
2) Project or programme based descriptions than demonstrate good practice models of intervening distressed or at risk children ?– this is also an opportunity to reflect on the milestones of our work with children affected by HIV/AIDS;
3) Poster presentations that share aspects of your work that you believe will be interesting to others or reflect the pride (or lessons learnt) that you feel in work that you have undertaken.

Regardless of the form of presentation that you would like to contribute, please complete the attached abstract form so that our panel can review your contribution and if accepted, suitably place it into one of the conference thematic sessions:

o Psychosocial support
o Children in care
o Schools and youth development
o Community development
o Home based care.
The above themes coincide with the five clusters into which various CINDI members belong and thus would be highly relevant to furthering our work within each of these thematic sectors.

The outcome of the scientific committee?’s anonymous review will be communicated to the authors of each abstract submission by 15th December 2005.
