Red Cross launches campaign to assist orphans of HIV/AIDS

16 June 2005. IRIN PlusNews. Republished courtesy of IRIN PlusNews.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched a campaign on Wednesday to support orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

IFRC spokeswoman Jennifer Inger was quoted by the South African Press association as saying, "The aim is to bring the plight of AIDS orphans to the government, private sector and other humanitarian organisations."

The IFRC effort, from which at least 10 southern African countries are expected to benefit, also aims to achieve new approaches to helping children with material, educational and psychological support.
