South African deputy president Jacob Zuma has called on the public to know their HIV status, in order to maintain good health and access freely available anti-AIDS treatment.
Addressing the 'International Candlelight Memorial Day' on Sunday, Zuma said everyone had a contribution to make in halting the spread of the disease and supporting those living with the HI-Virus.
The South African Press Association quoted Zuma as saying: "We need to have ourselves tested ... to live positively and choose healthy lifestyles. We must offer our understanding, love and encouragement to those affected and infected. Let us not judge each other, but support each other."
Zuma also hailed the political will of the government, saying it was now "playing its role" in tackling the pandemic.
