HIVAN is pleased to provide its website users with this training and teaching tool that condenses and tracks the historical and contemporary journey of HIV and AIDS, in the developed and the developing world, since the first recorded cases in the US in 1979.
The first portion of the slide-show presents ?“signposts?” in the incidence, growth and spread of the disease, as well as global and national responses to these developments. The last 14 slides cover the key features of South African media discourse and debates around the pandemic and its effects on a wide range of social, economic, public health and ethical aspects of our daily lives over the last year (2004 ?– 2005).
