Former world boxing flyweight champion Baby Jake Matlala led the fight against HIV/AIDS at Mondi's Durban headquarters in Merebank, where he was the guest of honour at the company's HIV/AIDS programme on Wednesday.

Mondi Business Paper CEO John Barton urged the 1 100 employees of the plant to be tested, to find out their HIV/AIDS status.

"Knowing your status means that steps can be taken to ensure the best quality of life possible," he said.

"We are offering free counselling and testing to all employees and their families. Access to treatment, education programmes and support groups will also be provided."

The company would like to encourage open dialogue about HIV/AIDS, Barton said.
