Invitation to NPOs to submit funding proposals

This initiative is aiming at strengthening trauma and victim-support services in South Africa through existing non-governmental agencies and community-based organisations by the provision of grants in specific geographical and sectoral priority areas as listed below:
Sectors and subsectors:
Accessible Mental Health Care
- Service providers identification/strengthening
- Special groups (rape victims/ex-combatants/refugees)
- Self care and care for care-givers
Capacity building and Training
- Provincial needs assessment
- Training frontline workers
Research and Information
- Impact of Trauma support work/interventions
- Evaluation of training programmes
- Developing specific and innovative monitoring and evaluation tools
Advocacy and Awareness Interventions
Geographic Area
Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Limpopo
This initiative is aimed at activities in South Africa, especially under resourced areas and provinces highlighted above.
The maximum project duration is 12 months (with possible extension). Overall amount available for this call for proposal is R4 million.
Maximum and minimum grant amounts
- Minimum grant per project: Rand 50 000-00/Maximum grant per project: Rand 300 000-00
- Organisations may apply for more than one grant, but will receive a maximum of R500.000 per organisation.
- Maximum proportion of project costs to be covered by the network funding: 80 % (The balance must be financed by the applicant's own resources or from other donors)
Minimum number of grants to be awarded:at least 13 grants to be awarded.
Eligibility and Award Criteria:
Applicants must be South African, non-profit making, NGOs or CBOs, affiliated to the network or in the process of being affiliated to the network and who operate mainly in the victim empowerment sector.
Provisional notification date of results for the award process:06 October 2003
Application format and details to be provided Applications must be submitted in the standard application form attached to the "Application Guide".
Deadline for application:Applications received after 12H00 on 22 August 2003 will not be considered in this funding cycle. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit applications before the deadline.
