Soul City: Insitute for Health and Development Communication is a non-governmental health promotion organisation, who use the power of the mass media to address topics of national importance in an entertaining and informative manner.
Since its inception in 1992, Soul City has produced five successful television and radio drama series. Each series dealt with a range of health and development topics. These included Mother and Childcare issues (Diarrhoea and Vomiting, Safe Motherhood and Breastfeeding), HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Violence against Women and Hypertension.
In 2000, the Soul City Institute, together with SABC Education, produced a very successful television drama series, Soul Buddyz, which is aimed at children aged eight to twelve years and screened on SABC 1. Two series of Soul Buddyz have been produced thus far, which have dealt with topics including HIV/AIDS, sexuality, disability, child abuse, corporal punishment, bullying, road accidents, substance abuse, racism and caring for the environment.
Soul Buddyz is currently planning the development of a third series and are inviting the public to suggest and motivate for specific topics for this series. Send Soul Buddyz a submission of a health or development issue which you believe is a national priority. The submissions can be sent by post, fax or email and the relevant details are given below.
