Intensive pre and post test HIV/AIDS counselling course
|
The Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN), in partnership with the School of Psychology at the
University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, will be holding an intensive eight day pre and post-test HIV/AIDS counselling course.
The course content includes:
- Representations of HIV/AIDS in South Africa
- Self awareness and worldviews and their impact on the counselling process
- The TASO model of counselling
- Origins of HIV/AIDS and its epidemiology
- Transmission
- The immune system
- Stages of HIV infection and sexually transmitted infections
- Sexuality and safe sex counseling
- HIV testing and diagnosis
- Counseling in context
- Counseling skills
- Pre test counselling
- Post test counselling
This course will develop your understanding of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to offer pre and post-test HIV/AIDS counselling. However, it will also equip you with skills and understanding that will enable you to engage in meaningful conversation with other people about the epidemic.
