The memory of HIV/AIDS activist Nkosi Johnson will be kept alive through an international soccer tournament.
The inaugural Nkosi Johnson International Soccer Challenge will take place on February 9, 2003. The Kansas City Wizards from the United States will play against two premier soccer league clubs to raise funds for Nkosi's Haven.
The first game against Moroka Swallows will be played at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng, while the City Wizards will play Ajax in Cape Town on February 15, 2003.
All the money raised during the two games will be contributed to Nkosi's Haven in honour of the boy who touched so many hearts with his HIV/AIDS message.
Gail Johnson, the director of the Nkosi Johnson HIV/AIDS Foundation, said she was thrilled by the support and wished Nkosi was still alive to see this event.
"He would have been 14-years-old on February 4, so this event is more like his anniversary," she explained. Nkosi died in 2001. |
