Live and let live - Gauteng door-to-door campaign

The spread of HIV/AIDS can be prevented and we can deal with the consequences of HIV/AIDS. It is up each and every one of us to make a small contribution in our way. The battle against HIV/AIDS will only be won by millions of initiatives at all levels... every little bit will count.
The Gauteng Provincial Government, together with local authorities and civil society organisations, is staging a massive door-to-door campaign in the build-up to World AIDS Day on 1 December, which this year is marked by the slogan ?“Live and Let Live?”.
As one of the world?’s biggest anti-HIV/AIDS drives, the campaign will be launched on Monday, 18 November and aims to educate and raise awareness on prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Care for people affected and infected by the disease will feature prominently, with the slogan ?“Care for me ?– I care for you?”.
Gauteng residents will be informed of the benefits of voluntary counseling and testing and how to access services. Information on programmes such as the Prevention-of-Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS and the provision of anti-retrovirals for rape survivors will also be available.
In last year?’s World AIDS Day campaign, about 7000 trained volunteers reached over two million Gauteng residents through door-to-door campaigns. This year the campaign is even bigger. Over 10 000 volunteers will visit communities throughout the province to help spread the gospel that HIV/AIDS can be defeated through joint efforts.
The climax of the campaign will be on the World AIDS Day event on December 1 at the Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, in Johannesburg. This event aims to promote and strengthen the family involvement in the prevention of HIV/AIDS as well as on support and care issues.
