Only two months after enjoying a court victory, HIV/AIDS activists are preparing for a new legal battle.
The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) lodged a complaint against pharmaceutical companies, GlaxoSmithKline and Boehringer Ingelheim on Thursday. TAC alleges that the two companies are abusing their dominant market position by overcharging for their anti-HIV/AIDS drugs. This is a prohibited practice.
The complaint was lodged with the Competition Commission, TAC spokesperson Mark Heywood said.
Boehringer Ingelheim spokesperson, Kevin McKenna, stated his company would respond once it had a chance to review the documents, while GlaxoSmithKline's Vicki Ehrich said her company believed the complaint was groundless.
