Households headed by children may soon receive a qualified contract for state housing subsidies.
This was announced on Tuesday by Minister of Housing Sankie Mthembi-Mahanyele.
The policy would entail a special programme and legislative changes. Recent forecasts predict that South Africa could have three million AIDS orphans by the end of the decade.
"At the moment we are providing temporary housing on an ad hoc basis at three sites in Durban and Pietermarizburg," she said.
"We are in discussions with the justice ministry to legalise this." |
