Research Grants: One-Year and Two-Year

Abstract: The goal of this program is to provide initial funding to investigators to enable them to gather preliminary data to answer questions quickly or obtain sufficient results to apply to other granting agencies.

Sponsor: Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Elizabeth

Deadline: 17h00 July 18, 2002 (letter of intent)

Requirements / Eligibility: Ph.D./M.D./Other Professional. Applicants must have a full-time academic or institutional appointment.

The foundation is especially interested in the following areas:

- transmission of virus from mother to infant;
- pathogenesis of HIV infection;
- mucosal immunity to HIV;
- characterization of immune response to HIV;
- central nervous system and HIV;
- role of the placenta in facilitation of, or protection from, HIV infection;
- host genetic factor that increase or decrease susceptibility of the neonate to perinatal HIV infection;
- vaccine development;
- breast-milk transmission; and
- other critical areas highly relevant to pediatric HIV/AIDS research.
