PROJECT OFFICER
(1-YEAR FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT). REFERENCE NO.: HIVAN 02/2004. PIETERMARITZBURG CAMPUS
The Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) seeks to appoint a Project Officer to implement student- volunteer projects co-ordinated by the Campus HIV/AIDS Support Unit. This is a full time, 12 months, fixed term post. The successful candidate will based at the Pietermaritzburg Campus HIV/AIDS Support Unit, University of KwaZulu-Natal.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Coordinate volunteer activities
- Build and sustain partnerships with local communities for student outreach programmes
- Ensure optimal usage of the peer education strategy as an HIV/AIDS intervention method.
- Supervise and develop a career path for volunteer peer educators
- Maintain a database of volunteer activities and movement
- Manage and record HIV/AIDS multimedia campaigns and events
- Ensure stakeholder involvement and participation in project activities.
Minimum requirements:
- A three year degree or diploma or three years working experience
- Formal training in facilitating workshops OR six months experience in facilitating workshops,
- Computer literacy in Ms Word, Excel and PowerPoint,
- Experience in HIV/AIDS prevention activities within a community setting, for one year
- Experience in using peer education strategy
- Ability to communicate in Zulu
The selection process will commence on 09th July 2004 and continue until a suitable candidate is appointed or a decision is taken not to fill the post. The position is set at a Grade 9 level and the package offered will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
