Friday, May 20, 2005 May 2005. Republished from the Agenda Website.
The 9 August is National Women?s Day in South Africa. The KwaZulu-Natal Intersect Coalition which is being spearheaded by the KZN Network on Violence Against Women plans to host a women?s celebration taking place at the Kings Park Soccer Stadium in which women will engage each other (and men) in activities like live musical, drama, poetry and story telling and etc.
Women will exhibit their arts and fine arts (including crafts and murals). Organizations (social, environmental, health, legal, etc.) and business will be able to inform the public of their services, display their media and market health products for women. The event will comprise of formal (with presentations) and informal sessions (celebrations and exhibitions). This will also serve as a networking platform for all stakeholders.
With this event we intend to review what our province has achieved by and for women and girls since South Africa?s democratic dispensation. We have invited government, business, organizations, institutions and communities to share with the general public the tangible gains and achievements around the link on violence against women and HIV/AIDS and related matters towards advancing women?s human rights and their status in the public and private spheres of society.
If you or your organization would like to get involved in the planning, sponsorship, hosting and participation of this event please contact Cookie Edwards or Nadia (KZN Network on Violence against Women) on (031) 304 6928 or 083 637 0203.
