Caregivers not forgotten in HIV/AIDS trust planning

With tens of thousands of children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, the strain on caregivers is enormous. The Orphans of AIDS Trust Fund, which was initiated by Independent Newspapers, aims to assist organisations looking after the children - but the caregivers also need help.

Meeting this challenge is the Independent Counselling and Advisory Service (ICAS), which has offered an employee assistance programme in which its counsellors will provide support for caregivers in dealing with money management and other personal problems.

The service, which will be delivered free of charge to employees of the organisations receiving funds from the Trust, will have indirect benefits for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Organisations to receive grants from the Trust have been identified and their names will be announced soon.

The Trust is a partnership between Independent Newspapers, government and business, and is also supported by the European Union Consular Corps.
The Trust offers the grants to organisations that provide a service to HIV/AIDS orphans, have community support and have financial accountability.
