Overview

Professor Anna Coutsoudis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Natal's Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine. Her main research interest has been on : Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and Prevention of HIV in youth. As a researcher, Professor Coutsoudis conceptualised and implemented the Child Development Programme together with other stakeholders at Cato Manor (Ekuphileni) Clinic. They aim to offer care and support for children orphaned by both HIV/AIDS and other causes. Linked to this programme is Professor Coutsoudis?’ initiative called Ithembalethu Breast Milk Bank. This is Africa's first community-based "breast-milk bank" for AIDS orphans and babies abandoned by HIV- mothers.
